Send Me Cross - Isaiah 6:8
Overview for Isaiah a Prophetic Book of the Old Testament
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

I) Far More than a Fortune-Teller
- Chapter 6 of Isaiah – Isaiah’s personal divine calling and commission as a prophet
Who was Isaiah?
- The Man – A prophet raised up by God and the divinely inspired primary author of the Old Testament book of Isaiah.
- Meaning of his name – “Yahweh is salvation”
- History – Isaiah prophesied during an era marked by political instability, and moral and spiritual decline within the nation of Judah (approx. 740 and 686 BC).
- Audience and Divine Purpose –
o Audience – Primarily were people of Judah and Jerusalem. Isaiah also prophesied to future events – exiled Israelites and future generations, both Jew and Gentile.
o Purpose: A call to repentance, warning of judgement, hope of restoration and the LORD’s ultimate plan of salvation through the Messiah, Christ Jesus (Chapters 40-66).
II) Judgment and Hope
Help, hope and the revelation of the sacrificial Savior in the place of sinners is a constant theme throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. The sinner required a Mediator, a spotless, perfect final sacrificial Lamb.
The prophet Isaiah was given a prophetic vision which explained all he needed to know. Instantly, Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord ask, “Whom shall I send”? In faith, Isaiah said, “Here am I! Send me!” Isaiah’s response set the stage for generations of redeemed believers.
The Lord’s redeemed are called to serve. Big picture - Christ took your judgement upon Himself. Personally, He forgave you of your sins. This fact alone frees you to serve and be His witness to others.
Prayerfully ask yourself, “How will I respond to His calling? Be courageous! Respond to this foundational question, and respond, “Here am I! Send me!
III) Taking a Deeper Step – Reflection Questions
- Isaiah’s response to God’s call was immediate. How has your personal response to serving reflected your faith and devotion in serving others?
- What does God’s question, “Whom shall I send”? say about His views on a willingness to serve from among His redeemed?
- When you serve, what is your motivation?
- Are you serving wholeheartedly?
