Jesus often used nature to describe Himself and His followers. In Colossians 2:7 His tree analogy refers to His believers. Each saved soul is a tree. They are trees of righteousness, planted and rooted in Christ. It is Jesus who will nourish their roots (souls).  They will experience His fruitfulness and grace being rooted and grounded in His love. In Him they will be firmly rooted in Truth.

"Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him." NLT The apostle Paul was under house arrest in Rome at the time he wrote Colossians (A.D. 60 to 62). He had not actually traveled to the City of Colosse [located at the base of Mt. Cadmus in modern Turkey]. The church plant of Colosse is accredited to two redeemed businessmen.  The significance of this fact telegraphs to all whose faith is in Christ Jesus that a redeemed soul does not necessarily need to be in full-time ministry to spread the Gospel message or even to plant a Christ-centered church (Acts 19:0-10).  The Word had taken root in the minds, hearts, and souls of Christ’s followers.  They responded with action and dedication in Truth.
