The Thin Red Line represents the brave firefighters who risk their lives to save innocent civilians from fires, accidents, deadly gas leaks, and other emergencies. These brave men and women actually run into fire to rescue innocent men, women, and children. When entering a burning home to rescue the people living there, these courageous firefighters also seek to save the owner’s pets.

The redeemed are called to serve and give of themselves to God. In some cases, to literally save and protect others. Each follower of Jesus is a messenger of hope and faith. There is a saying among followers of Jesus Christ, “Jesus doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” He will provide guidance, wisdom, and strength at each moment. The redeemed have their part, which is to learn all there is to know about Jesus. They are to prepare the heart, mind, body, and soul for life with Him. The Old Testament prophet Isaiah grew up during a time when Judah (southern kingdom of Israel) had become a thriving commercial and military state. It was also a time of decreasing spiritual reverence in the hearts of the people of Judah. God appointed prophets to communicate His Word to His people. Isaiah was called for such a position. The central strategic message, divinely given from God to Isaiah was this, trust in God’s protection. The Holy Spirit has gifted each redeemed soul with a unique set of gifts and abilities (1 Cor. 12:11). The redeemed will experience a call to action in their journey with Jesus. There will be opportunities presented for service in what may seem trivial and at other times will be extraordinary. Christ is the example of extraordinary leadership, a surrendered life, called by God the Father, inspired by the Holy Spirit, in unquestioning service. He remained always obedient in living out His calling. Isaiah echoes from the past and screams into the future, “Who will go for Us?”

Imagine if a firefighter, called to serve, stopped, and refused to enter a burning building or rescue an injured person. Like Jesus, firefighters respond in action, exemplifying the divine response, “Here I am! Send me!
