Your Trial Can Become Your Trophy

I spent half of my life chasing the dream of a national ski-jump championship.

On the second jump competing for a national championship, I hit the side of the ramp and it broke some of my gear. One of the things it busted was the ski fin on the bottom of my ski. We had three minutes for repairs or it was a forced forfeit. In those three minutes I was able to change out the broken fin for a good one. And in my last jump I was able to jump further than I’ve ever jumped, and my dream of a national championship came true.

At the end of the day, I was just thinking about everything and I remember taking the broken fin off and throwing it on the ground, and putting the new fin on. I wondered if that broken piece of fin was still on the ground where I had thrown it. I went to look for it and found it in the trash where someone had tossed it. I pulled it out of the trash and took it home with me as a souvenir.

Over time, it became precious to me. To where now if someone said you want to keep this broken fin or your medal, I would choose to keep the broken fin.

That was strange to me because that fin was the trial that almost cost me my trophy.

It reminded me that our trials can become our trophies if we persevere.

God can see us through all of it. He can use all the things you think will make you fail, to help you become stronger, overcome and succeed. it’s only a matter of time before the things that you think stand in your way become what make your journey valuable. There is no value in an easy victory.

Trust God’s Word, no matter what. Keep your eyes off your trial and on the horizon. Your trial can become your trophy.
