The Power of Gentleness

The Power of Gentleness

Gentleness

The older I get the more I realize the power of gentleness. Most of my life I saw gentleness as weakness. Many men do! When your a young boy getting pushed around gentleness seems to exacerbate the situation. lol... I have learned that it is the weak who are cruel, and that gentleness is to be expected only from the strong. Gentleness is a strong hand with a soft touch. It is a tender, compassionate approach toward others' weaknesses and limitations.

Truth

A gentle person still speaks truth, sometimes even painful truth, but in doing so guards his or her tone so the truth can be well received. I read a quote once that said "All who are truly godly and are real disciples of Christ have a gentle spirit in them." I believe that comes first from humility! When you truly realize the power of God and what Jesus did for you on the cross you are over come with humility! So how can your gentleness lift others up?

Trust

When you are gentle with others they trust you. They put down their guard that fear always throws up and they are much more likely to take constructive criticism to heart without shutting down. Knowing that there is a strong hand behind them that can deliver a message without unfair judgement allows them to focus all of their attention on the correct path. It fills their heart with love and purpose. My mother will never know how much her gentleness has made a difference in my life. To this day I am still learning how much of a difference it has made and will probably never fully understand what it has allowed me to do.

Strong Hand

So my question to you and myself is this! Do I want to be the person who always held back my closest loved ones, BF/GF, husband or wife? Or, do I want to be a strong hand of gentleness that sets a platform for others to become who God made them to be? I choose the later. I don't know about you, but I know I need help with becoming more gentle.

Help me Lord, please.
